Current mood: miserable
Well as you probably know from my previous blogs, I have been complaining about this new pain that just started up last week. The longer I sit down the more it hurts when I get up. I have turned to the net for remedies and even called the Labor and Delivery nurse line for advice. Everyone seemed to say its just the baby getting bigger, and your body changing. However, the the degree of pain I was experiencing and how long it lasts (hours on end) I knew there was something more than just the usually pangs of pregnancy. I finally was able to contact my OB and she advised me to come in ASAP. I went in today and she confirmed what I felt I had anyways, "Symphysis pubis dysfunction".
This disorder only happens in 1 out of 35 women. Bascially what it is, is since I am so far along now, towards the end of pregnacy your body's hormone level start to change. This is preparing for delivery. One of the hormones is called "relaxin" and what it does, is it relaxes your muscles and ligaments. In some women, me being one, your body produces to much and your muscles over relax causing severe pain in the pelvic/pubic area. There are three degrees of this dysfunction, minimal, mild, and severe. Thus far, I am teetering between mild and severe. I don't need a wheel chair (thank GOD!) but the pain does hinder me walking once it has set in.
This really sucks because it acts up when I am sitting. It doesnt matter where, the couch, chair, bed, floor. It just happens. When I lay down, it eases but I can't turn over without unbearable pain. I can't put on my pants standing up since I can't lift my legs high or apart much. Putting on shoes, let alone tieing them causes much pain. Forget about trying to bend over and pick something up! Unfortunately the only cure to this is having the baby and I still have at least 7 more weeks to go. My OB referred me to get some physical therapy out in Riverside to see if it helps with the pain. So far I am just on 2 tylonal every 4 hours (thats the only med I can take cuz I am preggers) and wearing a support belt 24/7 which isnt very comfortable.
I asked how delivery is going to be, and she reassured me that the doctors will be notified of my condition and delivery should be ok. I am kind of bummed but considering it took this long to finally have something uncomfortable happen to me while pregnant, I think I did good. She also checked the baby she she is doing good too.
Well I am off to lay down in bed and hope something good is on tv.
