Mia’s First Trip to San Diego!!!

Current mood: exhausted

Well we survived! Mia had her first trip down south to Sunny San Diego! to visit her Great Grandma Estrada and family. Boy was it an adventure to say the least...

First I had her all dolled up in her cute little yellow Pooh dress, with those shoe socks (I love!), and a cute little yellow bow. After putting her in the car, she didn't really fuss. Things seemed to go well as we took off on our 1.5 hour adventure in the car. She fell asleep almost immediately once we hit the freeway. All was going great.. Adrian and I got to catch up on talking.. it was nice and sunny out.. no traffic.. then.... BAM! Her little eyes opened! Uh-oh! But she still seemed ok.. she didnt want her binky and seemed to like looking out the window. All was peaceful till we hit Escondido. Then lil' Mia decided she had, had enough of the car ride and wanted her Mama (who was sitting next to her in the back seat) and Daddy to know by screaming! The cry became a panicky cry to scream in the manner of seconds! So now what do we do!?! Well I did everything I could to attempt to calm her down... offer up the binky? NO! she wanted no part of that, stroke her little cheek? NO! don’t touch me!, talk calmly to her, NO! be quiet!, sigh... so we ended up pulling off at the ARCO station in Terrisanta near Fry's Electronics and Qualcomm Stadium. Like bolts of lightening Adrian popped outta the car as I quickly unfastened her car seat belts and grabbed the diaper bag. We popped open the hatch back of my car and set up a make shift changing table there. (There was NO WAY I was taking my little girl into a grody nasty germ infested ARCO bathroom! besides from past experiences from my own bathroom emergencies, it never seems like ARCO/AMPM have bathrooms in the first place!) We whipped on a fresh dry diaper and Daddy took over carrying her around and showing her trees in the parking lot. She was all smiles and happy once again. We weren't though, after that crying episode and it being 90+ degrees out, we began doubting our decision to travel her so far from home. But we must press on.. almost at Grandma's house!

So we got her calmed down, back in the car we go. Things were meh till about the 805 then WAAAHH!!!! there she goes again! Luckily for us.. this meltdown session wasn't that long. We couldn't understand why unlike most babies... Mia didn't like to sleep in the car, but that’s Mia for ya I guess haha. At one point she didn't want to look outside anymore so I placed a receiving blankey over the top of her car seat to block the window.. that didn't last long since she got bored and wanted it off! This went on back and forth for awhile. FINALLY we made it to Grandma's house.. in one piece.

The visit was wonderful and soooo worth all the headache it took bringing her down. Great Grandma Estrada's eyes as well as everyone else’s lit up seeing her. Grandma Estrada (Adrian's Mom) got to see her little granddaughter bigger since she had not seen her since she was less than a week old. Her first words were (as she bolted out the door to greet us in the driveway) was "Oh My God! Look how BIG she is!!!" Everyone fell in love with little Mia and thank goodness she was on her best behavior. No meltdowns and only got fussy a couple of times. She even took a nap on Daddy's chest all tweak and twisted. We all agreed that Adrian should straighten her out but he said he knew she liked it. Sure enough when Adrian moved her to correct her position she woke up MAD! haha Auntie Teri, Eva, Great Grandma, Grandma, Cousins Geni, Oscar, Cynthia, Brianna, Natalia, and Auntie Rebecca all got to see and hold her. Seeing Oscar hold little Mia was too cute... he was all scared he would break her and didn't want to hold her at all. Of course Adrian had to plop her in his arms anyways, and it was so cute seeing his face light up. Cynthia got to feed her and like a natural she took right over. Then Mia started to do her notorious squirming and fussing and quickly Mama had to come to .. no not Mia's rescue, Cynthia's rescue!! hehe Geni also given the baby... with a little coaxing from Adrian (more like plopping the baby in her arms as well) Her face also lit up and both Baby and Cousin flashed their dimples. Too cute!

Ok back to the baby.... The whole visit went very well. Better than I could ever hoped. After the visit was over, we met up with Adrian's Mom again down the street near Longs Drugstore in Bonita so Grandpa Santos could meet her. She fell asleep on the way there so when we met up with Grandma and Grandpa she was a little fussy when we woke her up. However, as soon as we placed her in Grandpa Fernando's arms she quieted right down and fell asleep. It was really cute to see them meet for the first time. He was so excited to meet Granddaughter 3! After that little visit it was off to home we went.

Mia seemed to be doing ok until we hit the Terrisanta area again.. then BAM! (and to Terrisanta from Chula Vista really isn't that far) her little eyes opened and ..WAAAAH! Here we go again.. another classic Mia meltdown! So once again we had to pull off.. and once again it happened to be the SAME ARCO we pulled off at before! We rushed outta the car, popped the trunk and whipped out another fresh diaper for her. This time she demanded more!... so we fed her and she scarfed down 4 oz! We didn't want to give her a full feeding since we weren't sure if she would get car sick but after attempting to take away the bottle at 2oz she screamed. So she got what she wanted... all 4 oz! After a good burp and 30min trip delay we were back in the car once again. As we waited at the signal light to turn onto the freeway, I heard a grunt... uh-oh... as I looked over at Mia.. sure enough it was the famous red faced grunting Mia... yep it was poopie time. YIKES! She went.. and boy it wasn't the most pleasant smelling time either... down went the windows and off we zoomed across the street to a Shell gas station this time. We popped off the car, opened the trunk and ... eventually got Mia all cleaned up and ready to go. Now she was all fed, changed and had a poopie, it was now 40 mins behind schedule and 2 hours late from when I wanted to have her home. We thought she would be ok for the rest of the drive. We thought wrong. Sure enough right around the Southern Temecula area... she opened her little eyes again, looked around and WAAAH! sigh... another Mia meltdown. This time we were close to home and no way stopping! We were on a mission to make it back home in one piece! We eventually made it home and out went the Baby out of the car so quickly. I then picked her up and she seemed to be really happy being back home. I held her over my shoulder and talked to her quietly. Then as I laid her down on the changing table to change her diaper I noticed some spit up on her chin. I was like hummm that’s weird.. then I felt something cold and wet on my shoulder... sure enough when I looked over I was covered in curdled baby throw up! EWWW!! MIA! Off went my shirt and into the bath Mia went. After he bath I gave her, her dinner and off to bed she went without a fuss. She went down at 8:45pm and didn't wake up to eat till 5:15am! poor little one was tuckered out big time. She went right back down after her feeding and it is now 7am and she is still sleeping. Not even tossing and turning, she is out.

Well that was our little San Diego adventure! Talk about a big day. Adrian and I both decided we are going to wait a couple of more months before we travel her again that sort of distance. She just isn't ready and we need to expose her to smaller trips around town a bit more. She HATES her car seat so I think if I start walking her more around the neighborhood she will learn to tolerate it. At least that’s what we hope. Well I am off to rest a little more before she wakes up. I am still feeling it from yesterday. I posted tons of pics of our little adventure. I'll post more later
