Current mood: adventurous
Mia had a bad night last night. Not sure what was going on but around 5am she started waking up over and over again crying her little eyes out. Adrian and I took turns in trying to comfort her but we couldn't figure out what was wrong. She never fell back asleep soundly the rest of the night, so I got her out of bed a little after 8am.
We started our day as usual. She seemed to perk up a bit after breakfast. It was still pretty early and the weather seemed pretty nice, so I decided to give her a little treat and take her out on a walk. I wanted to take her down the road a bit to the Emu farm. (Yes we live in a pretty rural area). I call it the Emu farm but in actuality its someone's backyard! They own a few acres and they have Emu, goats, chickens, Llamas, etc. running around. It is all fenced in by a chain linked fence and the animals usually walk right up to you. I haven't taken her there since May so I thought she would really enjoy it.
So I got ourselves dressed and ready and off on our little adventure we went. She didn't care much for being pushed around in her stroller but she kept quiet. Eventually we made it to the farm. The first thing we saw was a giant black Llama! It walked right up to her and Mia got a huge kick out of this. She pointed at it and laughed and giggled. Eventually it walked away and Mia got mad, so I took her further down to see the Emu.
There is a makeshift pond there and inside were two ducks, a mallard and his girlfriend haha. On the bank of the pond there was a big fat black pig playing in the mud and next to the pig was a giant Emu! Mia liked watching the animals and became really excited when the Emu walked up to the fence. She chatted with it for a bit and seemed to enjoy herself. Then it was time to go.
I was pushing her along when I noticed something extremely strange. In the middle of the farm, sitting right on the dirt was a big owl!!! It was just sitting there, motionless for the most part but every now and then it would turn its head to look around. I thought it was strange to see an owl sitting there, especially in the wide open and in the day time! (there were no trees around). Then I noticed something even more amazing than that... I kid you not, no more than 3 feet from the owl sat a little brown ground squirrel. He was just sitting there, he wasn't scared of the owl and the owl didn't seem to care that he was there at all!!! I watched them for a short while, then busted out my camera and took a picture. Unfortunately the picture didn't come out to great since I had to take it through the fence and zoom far up so it wasn't that great. I still thought it was a pretty weird site to see and I am glad Mia and I got to share that together.
We later left and walked back home. It was a nice little adventure for us, I think I may take her back tomorrow... we will see
