I am really going to do my best not to rush this too much, but I am feeling so sick right now. I know if I don't get to this now I may never and all the little stories that I want to share may be lost since my memory is so horrible. So here we go.. its a race against my upset stomach!!!
DAY 1: (Monday)
My Dad came into town mid Sunday so we could leave to Oxnard early Monday. Well that didn't work out. I woke up so sick that we had to postpone our trip till mid-afternoon. Once my stomach stopped doing flips we loaded up the car and off we went on our adventure. This was the first time Mia would be away from her Dada for more than 2 days in Mia history! He was very sad to say goodbye but he knew it was for our own good. I needed to get some rest and Mia needed an adventure!
My Dad and I weren't quite sure what to expect on our trip, since Mia is notorious for making long distance trips difficult. To both of our amazement she did EXTREMELY well! She never cried once and for the first time in Mia history she didn't even sleep in the car the whole 2.5 hrs! WOW! I treated her with her Elmo DVD the closer we got to home since she was such a good girl. We made the whole trip without a single stop!
Once we made it to my parents house, we got Mia off the car and she went completely nuts exploring her new environment. She had a blast going into each room, picking up toys as she went along and just being Mia.
Later in the day my Dad needed to go to the store to pick up some milk for her. Mia only drinks "Swiss" milk (the others tend to make her sick) but Swiss isn't sold everywhere. So my Dad ended up going to 6! stores before he finally located Mia's milk. Boy talk about a quest! but Mia was happy to have her milk and she even got a new sippy cup too!
While my Dad was out getting her milk, I decided Mia needed a nap. She was whinning a bit and I knew she had not slept all day. So I laid her down in my parents bed and she knocked right out! I only let her sleep 30mins since I knew her bedtime wasn't to far away. I didn't think that 30 mins would affect her very much but boy was I wrong. Mia didn't end up getting sleepy again until past midnight!!!! OMG! She never ever stays up that late!
Later in the evening my Dad set up the lap top and played some of her Yo Gabba Gabba shows. Mia went nuts! I have never seen her get so excited over Gabba before. She literally screamed with joy and had the biggest smile on her face! It was almost like she couldn't believe her favorite show was being played somewhere away from home.
She later went to bed without a fuss in the pack in play in the spare room. She didn't even cry at all though she did lay away for a long while... darn that earlier nap
DAY TWO: (Tuesday)
Tuesday was pretty fun. It was unseasonably HOT that day and unfortunately since I was not expecting the heat I only packed Mia warm clothes. So we didn't take her out. She didn't mind much though she loved to play indoors... her favorite game was kick Slyvester (my parent's cat... poor kitty)
Nap time was fun. This time it was my Dad, myself and Mia on my Dads bed. My Dad kept trying to get her to lay down and go to sleep but I was secretly tickling her so she would go nuts. It was lots of fun. Eventually she started to calm down and my Dad was glad to see that, then Mia threw her stuffed flower at me. So I threw it back and soon it turned into a flower tossing fighting against myself and Mia! My Dad had to stop us and made Mia go to sleep. Hahaha Mama and daughter, always causing mischief!
Later in the evening there wasn't much to watch on TV so I decided to put on American Idol. I figured she might like the music and dance. She didn't care for the show much at first and it wasn't until the very last performer did she actually show interest. Once the girl took the stage Mia lit up because she saw the guitar the girl was holding. (Mia LOVES guitars) She screamed touched the TV and smiled. Once the girl started singing Mia started dancing. She didn't dance her normal "Stiff legged" dance she actually started getting down! She was shaking her hips back and forth HARD and making the cutest noise! She danced and danced for the entire song! We all got a kick out of that.I had not seen her dance like that in about 6 months or longer!
DAY THREE: (Wednesday)
It was another hot day, so hot that Mia started to show signs of Heat Rash. So I decided she needed a bath. My Dad helped me set up the tub and into the bath she went. Mia LOVES baths and had a blast playing with the toys I brought from home and splashing around. Once she got out and I lotioned her up her heat rash went away and she felt better. Like I mentioned before, Mia didn't have any cool clothes to wear so we put on one of my Moms tank tops on her to keep her cool. That little tank top was like a gown on Mia but it kept her cool and Mia loved running around in it.
We also learned that Mia hates opened doors! No matter how hot it got in the house, she refused to leave the front or back doors open. At one point I was roasting and I tried to stop her but I couldn't. So I put a big heavy cat scratch pole in front of it, trying to detour her. That didn't work. As heavy as the pole was she lifted it up, moved it out of the way then slammed the door closed. Sigh... so ya we roasted on the hot days.
Another amazing thing we noticed is... my parent's cat Dinky is afriad of Mia. This may not seem to be very spectaular but for anyone who knows Dinky knows how she is around little kids. Ever since my little cousin was little (She is 16 now) she has scratched and clawed every little kid that has walked in her path. She is very aggressive towards kids and attacks them all.... all but Mia. For some reason, when Mia is around Dinky runs for cover and hides. Mias has even kicked her a couple of times and Dinky just runs away. Wow! We think its because Mia shows no fear around the cat and because of that Dinky is scared of Mia. Dinky knows she cannot intimidate her. So Mia never got the wrath of Dinky and was never scratched.
Mia also did a very cute thing this day. She now gives kisses on demand. Before she would but only if you were holding her. Now if you tell her to go kiss someone she will run over and kiss them!!! She did that to me a couple of times and I just melted! It melted her Grandma too!
DAY FOUR: (Thursday)
The weather finally started to cool down so Mia got to play out in the front yard with Grandpa for awhile. She loved exploring and picking flowers. At one point she found a puffy dandilion and blew on it. She loved to watch all the litlte flying seeds around her... up until they started landing on her face. She didn't like that much.
She also went out on a little adventure with her Grandpa and came back with... yep some candy! haha She didn't eat it though she just liked playing with the wrapper.
Later that afternoon we got a surprise visit from her Great-Grandpa Pizano! He stopped by to see us and to say hi. He commented on how pretty Mia is and how she still studies everything. It was great seeing them together, he had not seen her since Oct. of last year!
This is the day she did the most amazing thing of all! It topped everything she had done so far throughout the week. She started to count!!! I wrote about this earlier in more detail. She made it all the way up to seven! We were all shocked and so proud of her. She did it while watching her Elmo show, on Grandpa's lap at the kitchen table. She did it a couple of times more before she got bored with it and ran off. I am still in shock over this!
DAY FIVE: (Friday)
We were planning on heading back home this day but my sickness was at an all time high. I could not leave the house so we decided to stay an extra day. Mia didn't mind it just meant more fun time with Grandpa and Grandma.
I took her in the backyard to play for awhile and she went nuts collecting dandilions and exploring. She loved running all over the place.
We got another surprise visit this day. My cousin Leanna stopped by real fast to drop of her birthday invitation. She is turning 11. She brought her little dog Max with her (a little yorkie) and Mia fell in love with the dog. At one point she was petting the dog with one hand and Slyvester the cat in the other. Then she started to kick the dog so we had to take her away. Sigh.... little Mia.
DAY SIX: (Saturday)
This was the final day in Oxnard. It was sad. Unfortunately the sickness hit hard again so we didn't leave until late at night.
During the day I decided to take a nap with Mia. I laid her in my parents bed and we both ended up sleeping together for 2 hrs!!! That was a first, I had not slept in the same bed with Mia EVER! It was a nice treat for me. Eventually I woke up and had to eat so I tried to wake up Mia but she refused to wake up! I let her sleep a bit longer but when it hit the 3rd hour I finally decided to wake her up despite her refusal. I am glad I did too because she ended up having a pee pee accident in my parents bed!!! OH NO!!!
The drive home was great. She slept the ENTIRE trip and didn't wake up until we pulled into the garage. The only bad thing was when she did wake up she was ready to go and after it hit 1am I went to bed and she was still up running around! I am not sure when exactly she went to bed but I know it was pretty late.
BTW Dada was so happy to see his little sunshine too! He was beaming so much and couldn't wait to hold her again. It was great seeing them together again.
Thats it! Our trip was lots of fun, I just wish I wasn't so sick. I spent most of my time laying on the couch but I did get some much needed rest and yes... when Mia wasn't around I did get spoiled too! haha It was a nice little vacation and I can't wait to do it again. Hopefully this time Dada can be there too!
