Mia went Poopies in her Potty!!!

Current mood: shocked

Though I have introduced many "potty" type things to Mia the past few months ie. taking her into the bathroom with me, buying her own potty chair, teaching her how to sign "potty" etc. I have not officially started potty training yet. She still needs some time before she is really ready (ya she still refusing to talk and communicate) so it will be awhile before I can really aggressively start trying. Till then its very sparactic and pretty much just introductions to things.

I bought her a "potty" many month ago. When I first showed it to her she just thought it was a toy and had more fun opening and closing the lid more than anything. I later moved it into the bathroom so she could see it whenever we were in there together. She never seemed interested in it when it was in there. If you sat her on it she would quickly get up. So I pretty much just gave up on trying to take steps towards potty training until she got a bit older.

Then my mother-in-law came to visit for a few days. She saw the potty in there and she too tried to show Mia how to sit on it. Mia refused to stay put. So my Mother-in-law suggested that I take the potty out into the livingroom where she plays, so she can get used to it on her own. I didn't mind trying this idea.. especially since the advice was coming from a three time veteran Mama.

So I put the potty in the livingroom where the TV is. Mia immediately noticed it and started to play with it a bit more. Then she started to sit on it!! However, she only sits on it if her two feet are in the bowl and her butt on the rim! HAHAH not quite what we need her to do but hey at least shes sitting on it. I figure I will correct her later after she sits on it more.

So that brings us to today. The morning was like any other morning. We finished breakfast and were watching TV in the livingroom. I was sitting on the couch while Mia was walking around playing with her toys. Then all of a sudden she froze, got a real serious look on her face and began doing the famous squat and push she does. I quickly asked her (like I always do, in attempts to have her recognize what she is doing) "Are you going poopies?!" Normally she will shake her head no (even if she is) and either run away or get mad at me for even asking by whining or crying. However today was different and she did something that completely shocked me! After I asked she immediately looked at me then waddled to her potty and sat on it (yes with her feet in the bowl) and finished up there!!!

I cheered her on! and clapped! Granted it wasn't an official "poopie in the potty" since her diaper and clothes were still on, but it was an attempt. She knew to sit on the potty to finish pooping! I was so proud of my little girl!

So I guess having her potty in the middle of the living (though a horrible eye-sore) isn't such a bad idea after all! haha

Week 85!

Current mood: lethargic

Phew what a week!!! It started with a fun visit from Mia's Grandparents (Pizano)! Of course she was spoiled rotten! and had lots of fun. She even showed us how computer savee she is, by moving the mouse on the computer so she could remove the media-player bar on the bottom of her TV show! What a smart cookie!!! She was spoiled with hugs, kisses, blueberry muffins, and balloons from IHOP!

After their visit was over and we said our sad goodbyes, we got another surprise! Her Grandma Santos came up for a surprise visit! She had some vacation time and wanted to see us. So Mia got to bond with her other Grandma (talk about Grandparent week!) Her Grandma was so shocked to see how big Mia has becme and how smart she is. Later in the week, Grandma Santos took everyone out to eat at Red Robin and Mia got to meet Mr. Red Robin!!! (A giant guy in a red bird costume!) To everyone's surprise (even the employees there) she LOVED him!!! She would scream and smile and she really liked him. They told us that most kids are terrified of the giant bird, but Mia didn't care she got a kick out of him. Unfortunately there wasn't a camera handy so we didn't take any pictures, but no worries we will be back again soon. We found out that he comes out ever Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7pm haha.

Mia has been on pretty good behavior this whole week. Daddy took her to the park a few times and yesterday we walked together down the street to the mailbox as a family. It was so cute, she was holding both our hands and she walked in the middle of us. It was a cute moment.

A big event also happened this week. Mia got three more teeth!!!! Granted I am not sure when exactly they came in, since she never allows me to probe her mouth anymore. But today I was actually able too look and sure enough we had three more surprises there! So her grand total is up to 15! Only 5 more to go!!

Well there isn't to much planned for this weekend, probably just alot of resting, but who knows maybe something huge might happen.... with Mia you never know! haha

Whoohoo Almost Done with Teething!!!

Current mood: excited

It's been awhile since Mia allowed me to inspect her teeth. I knew that her 4 incisors were the only teeth left to come in (other than her secondary molars which come in later). So tonight, since she was in such a good mood, I decided to make a game out checking her teeth and she actually let me!! I was able to really get in there and see what was going on and to my shock 3/4 teeth were all in and doing nicely!!! YAY! So that brings her grand total to 15!!!!

I looked up on the net to see how many teeth babies get total and its 20! So we are right around the corner. She just needs 1 more incisor at the bottom and the secondary molar set. I am so proud of her and even more happy that her teething days are almost over!!!

Go Mia!!! Congrats on your new chompers!

Status Update

I am so happy for Mia, other than her secondary molars which come in after shes 2, she only needs 1 more tooth to go!!! YAY almost done with teething!!!! =)

Another great visit from her Grandparents

Current mood: relaxed

How come the weeks go by fast and the weekends go by even faster?! Its pretty crazy! We got a special visit from Mia's Grandpa and Grandma Pizano this weekend, and it was lots of fun. They came down early on Saturday and left in the late afternoon today.

Mia had a blast seeing them again. She had not seen her Grandpa since late last month and had not seen her Grandma since Christmas! After they got settled in, Mia got to show off some of her new dance moves. We played all her favorite songs on the TV and she danced and danced. Then she discovered how to spin in circles until she got dizzy and pretty soon thats all she did!!! She did fall a couple of times but it still didn't detour her... shes alittle dancing machine. Eventually she pooped herself out and all she wanted to do afterward was cuddle with her Grandma. So they got alot of bonding time in.

She was also showered with gifts! She got a new talking Elmo book AND a blueberry muffin (her favorite)! She was treated like royalty the rest of the visit. She even got to stay up until almost 11!!! which never happens, but she made up for the missed sleep and didn't wake up until 11 the next day! WHOA! haha

Mia also managed to shock us all later that night. We had Yo Gabba Gabba playing on the TV while we were all sitting around visiting. Mia was playing in the livingroom and watching her show when she noticed something. My Mom forgot to move the mouse cursor so the TV was still showing the media player bar across the bottom of the screen. Mia went up to it, poked it with her toys a bit then took off on in mad dash! At first we thought she was going to run to my Dad who was calling her but she ran past him and my mom and ran straight for the computer. She found the mouse, moved the cursor so the bar would disappear, then ran back to the livingroom, checked the TV to make sure it was gone, then cheered and clapped happily! We all stopped what we were doing in complete shock on what we just saw. My Dad and I were still alittle skeptical so he got up and moved the mouse again to show the bar and sure enough.. Mia noticed it, ran over to the computer, moved the mouse while looking over the couch and when the bar disappeared she ran back and finished watching her show! WOW! Talk about a smart baby! I just sat there on the couch beaming with pride.

Overall the visit was awesome. My Mom and Dad took Mia to IHOP with them to get some food to bring back to the house and they all had fun there as well. The one thing they love to do it to show off their little Granddaughter and beam with pride with all the compliments they get from strangers. Mia came back with a balloon in each hand and as happy as can be. We all ate breakfast together (Mia sitting at the table with us for the first time) and chatted and visited some more.

The rest of the visit was spent spoiling Mia and when the time came to say goodbye it was sad. Mia literally had a sad face as she watched her Grandparents drive away and cried once we brought her back into the house. It was sad but we know they will be back soon. As of now, since she is now in bed, its time for Adrian and I to relax and watch a movie. He already has the fireplace going so I am off to go get warm and rest with my hubby!! What a great weekend!!!!!!

Week 84!

Current mood: amused

Happy Friday Everyone!!!! I can hardly believe it, another week has gone by so fast! It seriously seems just like a few hours ago that I wrote her last weekly blog and now here I am.

As fast as the week went by there really wasn't to much new to report. We did get to celebrate Valentines Day together as a family, which is always a treat. Mia stole my giant balloon that her Dada gave me, and her Dada and I shared some yummy chocolates. We went out to eat at Soup Plantation and Mia did extremely well there. She ate tons of new foods and I found out shes a pasta/olive lover just liker her Mama! Infact I had to make some pasta here at home for her to eat because she loved it so much.

All three of us went to the park down the road later in the week. This park has swings, a baby jungle gym, wide open field and has tons to do. Mia was reserved at first but she soon warmed up and was playing like a big girl. Her favorite was definitely the swings, and no they aren't the baby swings they were the big girl swings! oh and the slide! She can slide down all by herself now! YAY! I can't wait to take her back.

She also did a very cute this this morning. I was cleaning up the kitchen when I heard her saying something over and over and over. This is not like her, she likes to jibber jabber but doesn't really get stuck on a certain sound or word to often. I stopped and looked at what she was doing. She was holding her Brobee in one hand and her Elmo in the other. She put them in the air and said "up" then put her arms down and said "down", then "up" "down" "up" "down" It was too cute!!!! Her daddy has been teaching her that for awhile now but I have never seen her do it on her own out of no where! I was so proud of her and cheered her on. She has been doing that randomly throughout the day... such a cutiepie!

Oh and I almost forgot something!! She says "beep beep" in her own baby way just like the roadrunner cartoon (her favorite TuneyTunes) One day while we were watching it, I copied the Roadrunner after he said "beep beep" and Mia then copied me!!! Her beep beep is more like "mmaap-maap" haha but its her way of doing it. Now whenever you say "beep beep" to her she will say it back to you haha

My little head banging Mia. Thats right she has taught herself how to headbang to songs. So far she mainly does it to "Crazy Frog" and she learned it because in the video there is one part where the frog does it. Now she always does it at a certain part during a music change... its really quite amusing.

Bathtime has been getting alot of fun... for her mostly. I still bath her in the big tub, and I bought this tiny blue rubber whale that fits over the facet so she doesn't bumb her head anymore. She LOVES the tub but refuses to get out! Its literally a big wet splashing fight to get her out...but hey at least shes clean! haha She still closes the drain on me if I try to drain out the water and she always wants me to turn on the water so she can play with it. Though bathtime has become more fun for Mia its alot more work for me so not sure how much longer I'll keep doing it before graduating her to a shower! haha

Thats about it for the week. Her Grandparents (Pizano) are hopefully coming down for a visit tomorrow. That will be exciting and I am sure I will have some new stories to tell, till then I am off to clean ... clean... clean and get ready for their arrival!

A Fun Day at the Park

Current mood: happy

Its been so nice and warm out that we just couldn't pass up the chance to take Mia to a new park. Well its not actually "new", my Dad and I took her back in Oct but we had not been back since, plus Adrian has never been there.

The park is about 5mins away, so I got Mia all dressed up in her summer clothes (something I have been unable to do since the fall) and off we went. I like this park because unlike the one across the street from our house, it has a jungle gym made for little babies, plus it has a big open field and swings!

So we let Mia loose, but of course she was alittle reserved at first. She wanted to stick near us and when we put her on the jungle gym she just stood there for awhile and watch all the other little kids play around her. Eventually she became more comfortable and before we knew it she was sliding down the slide endless amount of times! She actually slide down herself! Daddy would prop her up on top and she would slide down by herself. I would catch her at the bottom. She was having a blast and had the biggest smile on her face. She liked sliding down and got so overwhelmed by the feeling of sliding she would close her eyes mid way and hold her breath! It was too cute!

After the jungle gym it was swings time. They do not have "baby" swings there so she had to swing on the swing like a big girl for the second time (the first time was with her Grandpa Pizano back in Oct). After alittle practice she learned to hold on to the chains as she sat there. Of course Mama or Daddy were right there to spot her incase she fell backwards. She LOVED the swings and screamed and laughed. She never wanted to get off of them!

After the swings we put her in the middle of the grassy field to run around. She picked some grass then bolted to the nearest basketball court where these young kids were practicing! Daddy had to sprint after her before she ran out on their court to steal their ball! haha So back to the jungle gym we went.

She had fun up top but was really scared of the swaying bridge, however, after much encouragement from her Daddy she soon became brave enough to walk the wobbly bridge herself! I am so proud of her! Then three young girls started to play on the jungle gym (they were about 8-10 years old). They instantly fell in love with Mia and tried to talk to her and encourage her to play but Mia just did her famous stare and refused to move. Sigh.... Eventually one of the little girls said "she is shy huh? She doesn't know how to say hi back huh?" we explained shes only a year and a half and doesn't talk haha. Eventually Mia played a bit more then after one last slide down the slide she literally walked us back to the car so we could go home. She was pooped!

It was lots of fun taking her to a new park. I just wish we knew more little kids around here so she could have more play dates with them. She needs more socialization .. BAD! Poor thing just has me, Adrian and Mew mew.. ah well things will change once we are back in San Diego. Overall the day was fun!!!

Happy Valentines Day 2010!!!!

Current mood: loved

Happy Valentines Day!!! I had such a great day with my Valentine and baby Valentine today (Adrian and Mia)! It was Mia's second Valentines Day and we had lots of fun.

We started the Valentine Day celebration yesterday (as tradition between Adrian and I that dates back YEARS and YEARS (mostly due to his work schedule back in the day) and I was given a beautiful dozen of red roses, a boquet of my favorite flowers (Star Gazers), a 1 pound box of See's Chocolates, my favorite italian pasta and the biggest heart shapped balloon I have ever seen!!!! (Of course Mia claimed it). Mia went nuts over the balloon which was literally bigger than she was! I am surprised she didn't float away!!!!! The rest of the day was spent at home enjoy each others company and hanging out relaxing.

Today we started the day early. After Mia's lunch we exchanged Cards and went out to lunch at Soup Plantation! Yum Yum!!! Mia did excellent there and ate so many new foods. I was so proud of my picky eater. I think she was in a good mood because I dressed her up Elmo style. She wore her new Elmo shirt, and Elmo socks and since she was such a good girl I gave her a little plastic Elmo doll that I bought her from Target. She had lots of fun playing with her toy after dinner.

After we were all stuffed to the max we headed back home. Since it was nice and sunny and pretty warm, we three decided to go to the park for awhile. So after parking the car in the garage, we got off and walked across the street. Mia had a blast picking up leaves, shaking trees, running around the grass and exploring the neighborhood (yes she managed to escape the park).

At one point we went to this one part of the neighborhood, where there is a culd-a-sac,
we let Mia run loose. She went completely nuts. She didn't know which way to go first or what she wanted to explore first. She ran up and down people's driveways, examined the street and ran around. Then she ran into a little boy who was playing with a squirt gun outside his home. Mia ran up to him and pointed and smiled. The boy (who was probably about 4-5) started trying to squirt her with his gun! Mia got a huge kick out of this, but the boys Mom quickly came out of the garage and tried to stop her son from doing that. Mia just stared at the lady and refused to talk even when she was talking to her. Eventually she lost intrested and walked away and became more interested in a rock she found in the street. So after playing a bit we all walked home together and rested the rest of the day watching Movies and TV shows.

Right before Bedtime Mia, for some unknown reason, became wound up BIG TIME! Adrian and I had never seen her so hyper before. She was literally bouncing off the couch. Adrian was trying to put her jammies on while I was laying down (I had a headache) and she kept climbing on me like I was a mountain and running away from Adrian. At one point I was calling her the flying monkey because she would literally bounce off the couch with her arms and legs stretch out and land on Adrian while screaming and laughing! It was the funniest thing we ever saw!!! We got a kick out of watching her go nuts... until the unavoidable happened... she hit her head on the back of our couch (the wooden part) she blew up in tears so fun time was over. Oh well.. it was fun while it lasted. She soon shock it off and went nuts again but was ailttle more careful. Then it was time for bed so we said our goodnights and Daddy put her to bed.

I had such a great day! One of the best Valentines Day ever. Now I am off to spend some time with my Big Valentine before I go to bed! Night Night!!

Week 83!

Current mood: relaxed

Happy Friday! Its that time again... another Mia weekly blog review. This week was pretty so-so nothing HUGE to report other than a couple of little things.

Mia made her big splash debut in the big bath tub this week. I decided to give it a try again and it went very well. The only bad thing was she REFUSED to get out!!! That is going to be my new obstacle now... how to get her out of the tub! haha

I decided to start up my workout routine again since the weather has been pretty decent. The other day I took Mia with me for my mile walk around the park. Afterwards I let her run around the park and play. She had lots of fun looking for leaves and literally chasing a nearby small plane while screaming!! (She later got mad at me that I couldn't grab it for her after she pointed at it). She stomped on the little man-hole (which she loves to do) and tried to run away into the street... sigh.

Mia also turned 19 months this week! YAY!!! My little girl is growing up so fast.. I know I say that alot but its TRUE!!!

And finally, I can finally include something I have been meaning to include for literally MONTHS now. I always seem to forget when I write blogs to include this so here we go. MIA IS A FUZZY MONSTER! haha no no it not like it sounds, what I mean is whenever she gets ahold of one of her favorite blankets and cuddles with it she will search all over the blanket to find a small fuzzy lint. Once she finds it she will quickly eat it!!!! I know!! I can't get her to stop! She does it so fast I can't even attempt to try to get it out of her mouth. So ya, Mia is a fuzzy eatin' monster! haha

Thats about it for the week. This weekend should be fun. Its Valentines Day weekend so I am sure I will have some stories to share. Until then I am off to get some rest, catch up on some TV shows and enjoy the rest of my Friday.

Mia is 19 months old today!!!!

Current mood: happy

Thats right! My little girl .... errrr ...BIG girl is 19 months old today!!! YAY!! She is growing so fast and still never ceases to amaze me!

I love writing blogs about her and sharing her little life stories with people, however, as time goes on it is beginning to really become difficult for me to keep up. As my life is becoming more and more hectic I am finding less and less free time. I can only imagine how things will be once we add another baby to the mix... pregnancy and after.

I do want to continue blogging about little Mia and I will continue to do so as long as I can, however, I do need to make some changes. One of the major changes will be her "Monthly Reviews". The older and older she is getting and the more stories that happen during the month and the longer and longer these blogs get. Though I do enjoy writing them it does consume way to much time. I am sure you, my readers, don't have very much free time to read these epically long blogs either. So its time for a change and what better way to start it than the start of her second half of her first year.

The format I used to use was basically reviewing in short paragraph summaries EVERYTHING that happened during the month. It was sort of repeatative since you could read the info in its entirety in previous blogs. Oh and on a side note, I HIGHLY recommend reading her blogs on her blogsite "www.butterflyprincessmia.blogspot.com" That site has everything "Myspace" has and more! Its easier to navigate through and less distractions. It is pretty user friendly as well. I am not sure how long I will keep myspace going since "Blogspot" is where I have most of her stuff. But thats another issue... see I already got side tracked.

So to make a long story short... (actually I think its alittle late for that) I am going to start using a new format for her month rewiew blogs. I am going to use the same format I used for her "Year in Review" blogs since I liked it so much. I am just going to list all the things that happened in the past month and if you would like to read more details about a certain event you can go back to the original blog earlier in the month. Hopefully with this change, it will cut down on the size of my monthly blog reviews as well as make it easier for my readers. So here we go...

Mia goes to the mark numerous times with both Daddy and Mommy

Weight:
125

Height:
2'10

Goals met from last month?
Whoohoo we finally met some goals for this month. Its been awhile..
She no longer blows up or throws a fit when its nap or bedtime... YAY! Well we haven't taken daily walks outside however we just started too today! She really doesn't eat to many new foods and we haven't added too many new things to the menu other than quesadillas, whole pairs, egg chilichilas, and well I guess that is some new foods to her menu.. YAY!

Goals for next month:
I am getting pretty tired of putting "have her say more words on command" because she just plain refuses to do so even though she says words on her own when SHE wants to. So I guess I will say... continue with the daily walks, add another new meal to her menu, stop refusing diaper changes so much (we will see how that one goes... its going to be tough!)

Mia makes a big splash in the tub

Current mood: exhausted

I have finally put my fears aside and let Mia test the waters in the big bathtub tonight. Yes, yes I know I used to have her bath that way before she could walk but stopped after the horrible incident. Unfortunately, the last time I bathed her in the big tub she was at the stage where she was pulling herself up on things and sure enough she pulled herself up on the side of the tub, slipped and busted open her lower lip. Blood everywhere!! Poor baby. Since then I bath her in her tiny little baby bathtub. I managed to squeeze (literally) her big body into her tiny baby bath but it was getting more and more difficult the bigger she got. I had yet to find the courage I needed to try the big bathtub again until today. Now here we are almost a year later and I am finally ready to try it again.

Why mess with a sure thing? Well like I said earlier, it was getting more and more difficult to stuff Mia into her tiny blue tub plus I want to start taking steps into showering her instead of baths. More for my own convience, especially when we decide to expand our family.. it will cut bath time down.. I hope.

So today Mia took the big plunge... again. I wasn't really sure how she was going to react since she doesn't do to well to change. I let her watch me fill up the tub, I poured some of her baby soap into the water to make it all bubbly for her, striped her down and got her ready for the bath. Unfortunately for me, once her clothes came off, off she ran! I eventually caught her trying to rock in her rocking chair in the room butt naked!!! I quickly called Adrian over to see it, since it was so cute. He walked in and just as he entered the room and noticed her naked she let out a big fart!!! ACK! I was so afraid she would poop on the floor! I quickly picked her up and whisked her away to the bathroom... at least that has tile! haha

Once the water was set I put her in the bath. Instantly she refused to sit down. She acted like she was terrified to sit down. Oh Great! I thought. So I let her get used to it her own way. I put some of her bath toys in the water and cheered her on as she tried to pick up the bubbles. I didn't think she would ever sit down so I just bathed her standing up. I figured maybe she just wasn't ready for the big girl bath yet. Boy was I wrong...

Once she became familiar with the water, bubbles, and bath tub she soon started to squat down.. still refusing to sit her butt down. She played and played with her toys and soon forgot all about her insecurities and soon was sitting on the tub chasing and playing with all her floaty toys. I was so proud of her. I let her play around a bit longer. I got a huge kick out of watching her do this weird crab squat/walk everytime she chased one of her floaty toys that was floating away from her. She never stood up and walked, she always either crawled or did that cute crab squat walk thing.

Then she started getting greedy. She tends to get this way with her toys or something she likes if there are multiple. She will grab as many as she can and sit on them, and sure enough thats what she ended up doing to her bath toys... grabbing as many as she could and sitting on them in a corner so they couldn't get away. It was really funny.

Watching my big girl play in the tub really made me realize what a big girl she is becoming.. well actually what a big girl she IS! I also realized I need to get one of those tub spout covers because she kept bashing her head against it! OUCH!

Well when she was getting prunier than I wanted her to be it was time to get out. That was a challenge in itself!!! Not only would she refuse to get out she would shake her head "No" and said "no no no no" and swim away from me. After trying to do it the "Nice Mama" way I decided I had no choice but to scare her out of the tub. Thats right... it was time for Mia to meet Mr. Drain. My arch-enemy at her age. I gave Mia one last chance to let me get her out of the tub and when she refused I twisted the drain open.....

The drain made that big scary noise and sure enough Mia got scared for a second and swam away. I say a second because thats all it took before she was no longer afraid of it and instead was intrigued by it. She looked at it for a bit then started playing with her toys more. She didn't even care!!!! Oh brother!!!! I tried and tried again to get her out of the tub but she refused. I figured once the water went down enough and she began to get cold she would want out. WRONG!!! she decided to shock me instead by the next thing she did.....

When the water was almost gone she finally noticed it was going away and noticed it was the drain that was sucking it all down. She went over to the drain and stuck her fingers inside it for awhile checking it out then pulled them out and started twisting the screw cap on it till it shut!!!!! Then continued to play with her toys..... WHOA!! I was completely shocked!!! Did she just figure out how to stop the drain!?!?!? I twisted the drain open again, this time it was really open. Mia played for a bit but when realized her water was going down she quickly went back to the drain, twisted the top and shut it again!!! and continued to play. Sigh... what to do now?! Well this time I opened the drain and made sure she couldn't get to it.

Once the water was all gone I figured, NOW she will want out. NOPE! WRONG AGAIN! She started playing with no water in the tub with her toys, sliding all over the place!!! I was nervous about her slipping so Daddy had to come in for the rescue. I couldn't reach her in the corner of the tub so he had to get her and hand my wet baby to me. She was not to happy about leaving the bathtub but since Dada was the one who got her she knew he meant business.

I got her ready for bed, fed her some bedtime snackies and off to bed she went. Phew what an adventure... I am so tired now!!! I am not sure if I am ready for this graduation but I guess I will have to be. All I know for sure is Mia loves her baths and I think I am going to have the cleanest baby in town for awhile... err well the pruniest at least haha

week 82!

Current mood: cold

Happy Friday Everyone! Burrrr... and its a chilly one too!!! It rained a tiny bit this morning, and though the rain has moved on the clouds are still here making it chilly willy!!!! I am about to turn up the heater another notch... maybe Adrian won't notice hahah

Well this week has been fun and full of suprises. We really realized how obessed Mia gets with balloons and how not to mess with HER balloons. She even got so angery, at the cashier who was scanning her Elmo balloon, that she made a mean face, clinched her hands and started shaking!!! Ya, she gets crazy if you mess with her balloons. She even popped her unpoppable Tinkerbell balloon this week as well. All that was left was a stick and a tattered ol' deflated Tinkerbell... poor Tink she didn't even have a chance!!

Though Mia chooses not to verbalize, she makes sure she gets her point across one way or another. I found this out by accidentally picking up a Cheerios box and putting it back and trying to give her Kix instead. BAD IDEA!!! She threw the biggest fit and demanded that I take the Kix out of her snackie bowl and replace them with Cheerios. Only then did she perk up and was happy again.. Sheesh! MIA!

She has also learned to recognize letters. Though she doesn't know what each one means, every time she comes across "words" or letters on the computer, books, or TV, she points to them and says the same thing "Ac-se" for "A and C" the only two letters she can pronounce. Its really cute. She only does it with letters not numbers or any other symbols.

Mia is my music baby. SHE LOVES music and to dance. We have started showing her Music videos from our archive and we have our "music" time during the day. Right now her all time favorite is still "Billie Jean" by Micheal Jackson, but a close second is between "All you need is Love" by the Beatles and "Crazy Frog!" haha She laughs, dances and loves those songs. She even dances to the Vengaboys "Up and Down" video and puts her arms up and down when they say it. My little musical baby.

Well she had her 18 month check up this week to. She is 25.12 lbs and 2'10 tall!! WOW what a growing baby. She checked out A-OK on EVERYTHING! and we are so proud of her. Unfortunately she did have to get a couple more shots but she took them like a champ. The first one she didn't even cry or make a sound, the second one she did get alittle whiny but quickly stopped. Thats my tough little cookie!!

Thats about it for the week. I am about to go bundle up on the couch with a nice fuzzy blanket and my little one. See you later!

Status Update

I love watching Mia get excited, smile, and dance to the Beatles "All you need is love" whenever I put it on for her. Its the cutest thing ever! I love my little flower child! ♥

Feeling so blessed right now

Current mood: blessed

I feel so very blessed right now. Sometimes I let life sweep me up in its whirlwind so much that I lose track of both time and whats really important in life. Today Mia reminded me how I need to slow down and enjoy what IS rather than what will be or what was.

She didn't do anything special, no special dancing, no special Mama kisses, no words at all... all she did was be herself. As I rocked her in my arms in her room before her bedtime (a night time ritual with us) I just sat there and enjoyed her. I listened to her breathing slowly become more deep as she relaxed and slowly difted off to sleep. I knew she felt safe in my arms and was completely content. I cuddled my warm little well... big bundle in my arms and just watched her. Right then I was at peace with the world. Nothing was stressing me out, pressuring me, making me anxious or making me sad. At that very moment I just enjoyed being a Mama and felt completely happy.

Tears began to well up and my throat tightened. I reflected back on all that we had gone through together. I helped create this little bundle of joy that I was holding my arms. Everything I did, all the sacrifices I made carrying her those 9 months was all for her and well worth it. All the lack of sleep, self-lessness and work I now do to make sure all her meals are freshly cooked, she is bathed and clean, her clothes are always freshly washed, giving her emotional support as well as freedom she needs, and most of all, all the countless hours I spend with her making sure she is happy. Everything I do, I do for her and its worth every second. As I look down at her I realize for once... maybe I am doing a good job as her Mama. I feel proud of myself for being such a good Mama to her. I admit I am not perfect but I try my hardest to be for her.

I love my daughter more than life itself. There is nothing I wouldn't do for her. She is my blessing from God.. the answer to all my prayers and my little perfect angel. I love her so much and not a day goes by that I don't thank God for blessing me with one of his angels.

I love you Mia, you are and always will be my little Butterfly Princess....

Mia's 18month Check-up

Current mood: Proud

First of all, I just want to write and say how EXTREMELY PROUD I am of my little girl. She is so precious and so cute but man what a tough cookie she is. She never ceases to amaze me.

Well today was the day Adrian and I have been dreading for sometime. It was that time again.... time for Mia's "Well Baby Check-up" (18 months). We both could have sworn that last time we went in they told us we didn't have to be back until she was 4, but I guess we were misinformed.

The day started off pretty good. Mia was in a good mood and I didn't have any trouble with her in the morning. I even gave her a bath so she would be extra clean for the doctors. I put her down for a nap and got ready for her appointment that was later in the afternoon. When her appointment time was rounding the corner I actually had to wake her up from the nap. I wasn't sure how her mood would be since she didn't wake up on her own but surprisenly she was really happy and chipper. This broke my heart since I knew what the next hour would bring.... PAIN! from shots!

So I got her ready and when Adrian was ready we were out the door. She was jibber jabbering happily in the backseat munching on a pair. I felt a pain my chest as my heart broke more and more the closer we got to her doctor's office. Once we got there we got her off the car and checked her in.

She went NUTS in the waiting room. She climbed on and off the chairs, explored every inch of that room and even went up to strangers pointed at them, and jibber jabbered to them. Daddy let her play a bit outside of the waiting room for a bit and she took off to the pharmacy. Once she got there she started to get into all the items on the shelves!!! So Daddy had to quickly scoop her up and came back to the waiting room. Soon her name was called and we were taken to the back area.

Her normal doctor was out so another doctor was going to see her instead. I felt alittle bummed about this since we LOVE her doctor and he is really good with her, but we didn't want to have to reschedule and do this all over another time.

The nurse had us undress Mia and she weighed her. Adrian predicted she would be 27lbs I guessed 28 but to our surprise she was only 25.12lbs! She has never been heavy for her age. We were happy to find out that she is finally above the "normal" line (she is always under it). They were happy to see that too.

Next they took her temp., measured her head and height and she did VERY well for all of those exams. She didn't even cry! Infact she jibber jabbered softly to the nurse as she did it. The nurse was very impressed by this and gave her a sticker for being so good. She then asked us a series of questions regarding her development and shes right on track with EVERYTHING! YAY! Good Job Mia! When she was done she left and we waited for the doctor to come in.

She did good while we waited. She played on the crunch paper and played with her reflexion in the mirror. Then the doctor came in and introduced himself. He was a nice doctor but I still like her normal one better! haha He checked her ears, mouth, back, eyes ... the works. Mia did great with everything! Even when he put the tongue depressor in her mouth she didn't even cry about that! She always used to! I was beaming with pride! What a good girl she was being. Then it came down to showing how she walks, thats when all of a sudden she got stage fright! She just stood there. The doctor tried to nudge her but she wouldnt move. We tried to coax her but she refused to even lift a foot! She just stood there motionless. We tried to bribe her with Daddy's Cell phone, my camera, even the doctor used his little light instrument but she refused! Ah well... so he took our word for how well she walks haha.

The doctor then went over her charts. First up...

Weight: As I mentioned before she has been alittle under the "average/normal" range the past two check ups but this time she finally was above average and hit the 70 percentile! She is 25.12 lbs.

Height: Even when the nurse saw her, she right away commented on how very tall she is for her age. (We get that alot) the Doctor also commented on how tall she is so it wasn't to shocking that her trend hasn't stopped. She was in the 95 percentile at 6months, 90 percentile at a year and now she is back up at the upper 95 percentile now! Wow what a tall girl! She is almost 3 feet tall already at a year and a half!!! She is .86 inches which is 2 feet 10inch!

Head: Mia has always had an above average size head. I always said its because she houses a big smart brain!! but even as a newborn I could rarely put any beanies on her because of the size of her head. Well the last 3 doctor's visits she has been in the 90 percentile for her head and today she actually went off the charts!! Shes in the 96-97 percentile! WOW!!! Well she does have a big brain in there because she is so smart! Her head is 49.5cm

After he was done with his exams he asked us to wait until the nurse came back to do the shots. OH NO!!!! We waited a bit then she came in. My stomach was in knots. Adrian helped hold her as I turned away. She was only getting two shots this time.. her HIB and Hep A both in the same leg. The nurse was really good with her and spoke to her calmly and to our shock she didn't even cry with the first one! Infact Adrian said all she did was make a mean face. The nurse was surprised too! Then came the second one and this time she did start to fuss a bit but not a full on cry like before. Adrian quickly picked her up and calmed he down. She literally only cried for about a min. Then she we was rewarded with another sticker AND a new baby book from the nurse! YAY!! She cheered up a bit more, we said our goodbyes, and off to the car we went.

We treated her to a movie in the backseat and I gave her another pair (her favorite snackie) She did great on the ride home and hasn't cried again. Such a big girl! I am so proud of her! I love her so much!

Phew I am glad thats over and we get a break for another 6 months!!! then its back again... yuk!! I can't wait until all her shots are over!

Even Tinkerbell with all her Pixie Dust could not survive the wrath of Mia

Current mood: awake

I forgot to mention this little story yesterday but I was reminded of it when I recently passed by the carcuss of a dead Tinkerbell balloon. So I thought I would mention it.

Yesterday the three of us went to WinCo to pick up some groceries for a BBQ at the house. Mia had been in a great mood all day. Daddy even took her to the park earlier in the day, however, once we hit the grocery store she did a complete 180!

For the first time ever, she started whining and fussing and full out screaming in the store!!! Nothing was appeasing her, she just wanted to grab everything out of the cart and destroy it! She was constantly upset and when we realized we were in some serious trouble, Adrian and I split up and ran around the store picking up the things we needed so we could hurry up and get out of there ASAP.

Once we got to the check out line Mia noticed the balloons!! OH NO!! Not again! Adrian and I both got flash backs from her Elmo Balloon incident at Cardenas just a couple of days ago. After Mia started fussing louder, refused to sit down and demanded Adrian hold her we decided to do the bad parent thing and give her a balloon anyways (I KNOW I KNOW!) So we picked out the Tinkerbell balloon for her. It was actually pretty cute. Once Mia got the balloon she sat down quietly and let us pay for our stuff without anymore fussiness.

The balloon was a tiny one with a giant Tinkerbell on it. It is one of those mylar type balloons that never pop or deflate and has a stick for a handle. We figured this could be Mia's new toy and it would be around for a long time... WRONG!!!

When we got home she carried that little balloon on its stick all over the house. Adrian was preparing the BBQ while I was preparing the food, so neither of us were really watching Mia closely. She was quietly watching her Elmo with her Balloon and eating a piece of pair. She was happy.

Then I noticed her balloon... it was saggy and deflated and the stick was missing!!!!! What the Heck!??!? Somehow Mia managed to destroy the balloon anyway and it was all messed up. Oh no!!! Sigh ... ah well....

So ya, even with all of Tinkerbell's magic pixie powers it was no match against Mia's destructive powers!!!! R.I.P. Tink....

Kix vs. Cheerios

Current mood: surprised

Mia really made sure I knew exactly what she wanted today. It was in the late afternoon, too soon after lunch to eat a big meal and to close to dinner to eat something heavy so I fed her the next best thing... snackies!!!

Since we are very strict on Mia's diet (mostly consisting of fresh foods ie. fruits and veggies) her "snackies" are usually dried cerial, either Kix or Plain Cheerios. I asked her if she wanted snackies and she quickly ran to the kitchen. I grabbed her little snackie cup and walked to the kitchen island where her Cheerio and Kix box were sitting.

Oh wait, before I get into what happened next, I want to say that Mia is a Kix monster! She loves munching on those little puff balls and tends to get them everywhere. As for Cheerios, that used to be her all time favorite snack when she was very little and barely learning to eat solids. I backed off on the Cheerios for awhile since she was eating them ALL the time. Thats when we introduced the Kix. Ok with all that being said I can contiune...

Well I accidentally picked up the Cheerio box for a second, and when I realized my mistake I quickly put it down and picked up the Kix box. Thats when Mia suddenly burst into a HUGE fit! She screamed and shook her hips back and forth protesting what I was doing. I figured she was just mad I was taking so long so I tried to correct her saying that screaming and crying will not make me go any faster. I filled up her cup and handed it to her. She was so upset she REFUSED to even touch the cup. Instead she cried and cried angerly. I couldn't understand why. Then she reached up as high as she could and touched the Cheerio box. I thought to myself "She couldn't possibly mean that she wants Cheerios instead". (Although, I had fed her some yesterday for the first time in MONTHS and she scarfed down the whole cup!). I decided to test my theory... thinking she would cry with either cereal. So I put the Kix back in the box and filled her cup up with Cheerios. Instantly Mia calmed down and waited for me to give her the snackie cup. I handed it to her and she had the biggest smile and ran off with it munching on her Cheerios. I stood there completely shocked!

Wow, what do you know! She really does know what she wants and now she makes sure you know too!!! Looks like I will need to stock up on Cheerios again!
