Mia makes a big splash in the tub

Current mood: exhausted

I have finally put my fears aside and let Mia test the waters in the big bathtub tonight. Yes, yes I know I used to have her bath that way before she could walk but stopped after the horrible incident. Unfortunately, the last time I bathed her in the big tub she was at the stage where she was pulling herself up on things and sure enough she pulled herself up on the side of the tub, slipped and busted open her lower lip. Blood everywhere!! Poor baby. Since then I bath her in her tiny little baby bathtub. I managed to squeeze (literally) her big body into her tiny baby bath but it was getting more and more difficult the bigger she got. I had yet to find the courage I needed to try the big bathtub again until today. Now here we are almost a year later and I am finally ready to try it again.

Why mess with a sure thing? Well like I said earlier, it was getting more and more difficult to stuff Mia into her tiny blue tub plus I want to start taking steps into showering her instead of baths. More for my own convience, especially when we decide to expand our family.. it will cut bath time down.. I hope.

So today Mia took the big plunge... again. I wasn't really sure how she was going to react since she doesn't do to well to change. I let her watch me fill up the tub, I poured some of her baby soap into the water to make it all bubbly for her, striped her down and got her ready for the bath. Unfortunately for me, once her clothes came off, off she ran! I eventually caught her trying to rock in her rocking chair in the room butt naked!!! I quickly called Adrian over to see it, since it was so cute. He walked in and just as he entered the room and noticed her naked she let out a big fart!!! ACK! I was so afraid she would poop on the floor! I quickly picked her up and whisked her away to the bathroom... at least that has tile! haha

Once the water was set I put her in the bath. Instantly she refused to sit down. She acted like she was terrified to sit down. Oh Great! I thought. So I let her get used to it her own way. I put some of her bath toys in the water and cheered her on as she tried to pick up the bubbles. I didn't think she would ever sit down so I just bathed her standing up. I figured maybe she just wasn't ready for the big girl bath yet. Boy was I wrong...

Once she became familiar with the water, bubbles, and bath tub she soon started to squat down.. still refusing to sit her butt down. She played and played with her toys and soon forgot all about her insecurities and soon was sitting on the tub chasing and playing with all her floaty toys. I was so proud of her. I let her play around a bit longer. I got a huge kick out of watching her do this weird crab squat/walk everytime she chased one of her floaty toys that was floating away from her. She never stood up and walked, she always either crawled or did that cute crab squat walk thing.

Then she started getting greedy. She tends to get this way with her toys or something she likes if there are multiple. She will grab as many as she can and sit on them, and sure enough thats what she ended up doing to her bath toys... grabbing as many as she could and sitting on them in a corner so they couldn't get away. It was really funny.

Watching my big girl play in the tub really made me realize what a big girl she is becoming.. well actually what a big girl she IS! I also realized I need to get one of those tub spout covers because she kept bashing her head against it! OUCH!

Well when she was getting prunier than I wanted her to be it was time to get out. That was a challenge in itself!!! Not only would she refuse to get out she would shake her head "No" and said "no no no no" and swim away from me. After trying to do it the "Nice Mama" way I decided I had no choice but to scare her out of the tub. Thats right... it was time for Mia to meet Mr. Drain. My arch-enemy at her age. I gave Mia one last chance to let me get her out of the tub and when she refused I twisted the drain open.....

The drain made that big scary noise and sure enough Mia got scared for a second and swam away. I say a second because thats all it took before she was no longer afraid of it and instead was intrigued by it. She looked at it for a bit then started playing with her toys more. She didn't even care!!!! Oh brother!!!! I tried and tried again to get her out of the tub but she refused. I figured once the water went down enough and she began to get cold she would want out. WRONG!!! she decided to shock me instead by the next thing she did.....

When the water was almost gone she finally noticed it was going away and noticed it was the drain that was sucking it all down. She went over to the drain and stuck her fingers inside it for awhile checking it out then pulled them out and started twisting the screw cap on it till it shut!!!!! Then continued to play with her toys..... WHOA!! I was completely shocked!!! Did she just figure out how to stop the drain!?!?!? I twisted the drain open again, this time it was really open. Mia played for a bit but when realized her water was going down she quickly went back to the drain, twisted the top and shut it again!!! and continued to play. Sigh... what to do now?! Well this time I opened the drain and made sure she couldn't get to it.

Once the water was all gone I figured, NOW she will want out. NOPE! WRONG AGAIN! She started playing with no water in the tub with her toys, sliding all over the place!!! I was nervous about her slipping so Daddy had to come in for the rescue. I couldn't reach her in the corner of the tub so he had to get her and hand my wet baby to me. She was not to happy about leaving the bathtub but since Dada was the one who got her she knew he meant business.

I got her ready for bed, fed her some bedtime snackies and off to bed she went. Phew what an adventure... I am so tired now!!! I am not sure if I am ready for this graduation but I guess I will have to be. All I know for sure is Mia loves her baths and I think I am going to have the cleanest baby in town for awhile... err well the pruniest at least haha
