Current mood: stressed
Mia has been sleeping, successfully I might add, in her big girl bed for nearly a month. She has had no interest or desire to go back to the crib. I think its great and the transition was so easy for us. Today, however, I made a fatal flaw that just might mess up the progress we made...
The first thing in the morning is always a fun time for us. I greet Mia in her room with a clean diaper in hand and a surprise "snackie" in the other. The snack is usually a half of a banana or apple or her favorite "cheerios!". After she munches on her snack its play time for a bit while we both wake up. Play time usually consists of me singing to her and Mia bouncing around on her bed laughing and screaming. We play with her little toys a bit and after changing her diaper its time to go downstairs so we can officially start our day.
Well this morning was like any other morning. Same ol' routine, however, this time I decided to do something new. But before I get into that I need to mention that her crib is against her bed acting as a make-shift wall. I put it there purposely to keep her from falling off her bed on that end. She recently started throwing toys in her crib and pulling them back out. When she can't reach one she makes me grab it. Well today I figured, "hey maybe if I lowered the side rail she can grab it herself" BAD IDEA!!!! Once I lowered the side of her crib she got all excited and immediately attempted to scale her crib to get inside!!! Eventually she lost her balance and face planted it in her crib!! I thought she would cry but she got up laughing like it was the funniest thing ever. She liked it!!
Then she wanted me to put more toys, her pillow, and blanket inside with her. It was sort of a game with us and we played. She would lay down and pretend to snore, then get up and laugh. Eventually it started to get late. I knew she needed breakfast and by then I was beginning to feel hungry too. I tried to convince her to get out of her crib but she refused. She kept laughing and bouncing around and refused to try to get out.
I started to get annoyed. I was hungry, I knew she was too and it was time to go, but she kept wanting to play. I tried to bribe her with her favorite foods I asked her..
"Mia don't you want some Eggies?!?! Lets go get some Eggs!" I asked
Mia replied by shaking her head no. Then I asked...
"Mia don't you want some milk?! Mmmm... milk!"
She looked at me and said...
"Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!"
Sigh... ok that didn't work. So I acted like I was leaving and she didn't care. So I did leave and walked around the corner. Right away I heard her start to whine and call to me "Mama!!! Mama!!!" I came back inside and she bounced around in her crib some more and still refused to get out.
By then I was really getting frustrated. I walked to her crib and demanded she get out. Finally she let me get her out. Of course I had to lift her out which is a HUGE No-no per my doctor. The whole reason we transitioned her to a bed was so I wouldn't have to lift her out of her crib. Sigh...
Well the rest of the morning was pretty easy nothing new to report. Then it was nap time. I wasn't sure how she would act with that knowing she could climb into her crib. Well just like I feared as soon as I got her in bed she ran over to her crib and threw herself over the side and happily landed in her crib. I tried to get her out and before I knew it she flew out of her crib and back on the bed. This was the first time she had climbed out of her crib onto the bed, and of course once she learned how to do that she started to literally scale the side rail back and forth in and out of the crib.
I knew if I stayed in her room with her a nap would be impossible so I left. She didn't even fuss either, she was having to much fun climbing in and out of her crib. I stayed upstairs in the tech center and chatted with Adrian a bit on what we should do about the new situation with the crib. We agreed if it poses a problem we might just move her crib out of the room completely. Then I kept hearing "thump thump thump!" Great, shes still scaling the crib rail, I thought. So I went to her door to spy on her. I quietly opened it a crack and peeked inside...
To my shock she was getting all comfy and ready for a nap INSIDE HER CRIB!!!!! The thumping was her feet banging against the mattress (one of her old favorite habits she used to do when she slept in the crib). Oh great... did she just regress?!
Well I am hoping its just because its a "new" thing to her and she will soon grow tired of it. I am trying not to over analyze it or grow to concerned. The good thing is, we can just take her crib out of her room completely if we need too.
We will see what tonight holds for us...
************* UPDATE ***************
I peeked on Mia once again before I laid down for my own nap and found that she can climbed back out of her crib and was sleeping peacefully in her big girl bed. Phew!!!..... YAY!
