Current Mood: Tired
We decided to spend Easter with the Cardoso family this year. With the way I was feeling lately, the idea of driving all the way to Oxnard to see my family was out of the question. So we got up bright and early to make sure we wouldn't be late... I didn't want to miss the egg hunt for a second year! haha
We celebrated our own little family Easter in the morning then headed off to Sunny San Diego. Mia was all dolled up in her new Easter dress and new sandals that finally came in the mail. The weather was pretty nice and she did great in the car. She slept most of the way and didn't fuss at all.
Once we got to Tia Gloria's house most of the family was already there! (And we thought we were early!!! haha) Mia greeted everyone shyly (aka hiding her face in Daddy's shoulder) but she eventually warmed up, especially once we took her outside. She sat on Grandpa Chalo's lap for awhile but that didn't last long once she noticed the HUGE swing set they have in their backyard. She swung on the swings for a bit (Daddy spotting her of course) but her most favorite thing of all was her cousin Baby D's little car!!! She loved that little car and spent most of the time at the party cruising along in it!
Then her cousin Brianna noticed her and quickly came over to say hello! She helped push Mia in her car and her other cousin Natalia helped too!! Natalia even gave Mia an Easter egg and a beaded necklace! The cousins played together for awhile, while Mama and Daddy visited. Then I heard the familiar cry!!! It was Mia!!! I sprang to my feet and ran to where the crying came from. I found Mia on the ground and I quickly picked her up. It turns out her cousin Brianna wanted to help Mia swing on the swing and Mia of course fell. Poor baby. Brianna felt so bad, but Mia was ok just alittle shook up and a tiny bruise on her face later appeared. We gave her some fruit to eat and she was as good as new.
She went back to the car to play some more and for the most part stayed away from the swings. After some time had passed and everyone had eaten it was time for the egg hunt. All the little ones were brought inside the house (including Mia) while the adults hid the eggs. Once all the eggs were hidden the kids were release into the yard! All the kids went crazy hunting for eggs all at once. It was a mad house!! Mia, Adrian and I went to a far corner of the yard where no kids where at and had Mia hunt there with Daddy's help. Sure enough she found the mother load of eggs!!!! She was putting eggs into her basket left and right. Then her Grandpa Chalo and Tio Jesus started to help her too!! She was getting eggs so fast that her little Elmo bucket was about to over flow!! She soon ditched her basket (I think it was to heavy) and was searching for eggs bare handed!! She even tore out a Easter bunny sign that was in the flower bed! haha Then some of her cousins started to gather around her area. Her cousin Emily then dropped an big shiny egg out of her basket and though she didn't notice, Mia sure did and swiped it up! Then she wanted to start taking eggs out of her cousin Brianna's basket but we stopped her.
After her basket full we decided she had found enough and went to a table to sit down and see what were inside the eggs. The egg hunt ended soon after and people started to sit down and chat again. Then the unexpected happened....
The ground started to move a bit. I thought maybe I was dizzy but then realized it wasn't me! it was an EARTHQUAKE!!! Just as I realized it, so did everyone else. The shaking grew more and more intense. Adrian stood up with Mia and I told those around me to get away from the livingroom window since I could see it literally bowing and flexing! I was afraid it would shatter any min. We all then moved to the middle of the yard far away from the house. The shaking continued and got worse!!! Soon all the people inside the house came out into the yard. They turned off the music and everyone stood in awe of the flexing windows, swaying mini-blinds and the rolling beneath our feet!!! The quake ended up lasting 37 seconds! The longest quake I have ever felt and it was STRONG!!! Once the shaking stopped we all went inside and checked the news. Turns out it was a 7.2 quake that was centered not to far from us, in Calexico. Everyone was shook up for a bit but after awhile we went back to celebrating Easter.
I felt a couple more aftershocks after that but nothing to big. Mia went back out and played in her car and Daddy and I visited with family. Then Adrian's cousin Robert and his fiancee Cherilyn came with her newborn daughter Gabby. I, of course, went nuts over the little baby but noticed one thing that would eventually pose a problem. The baby was wrapped up in a purple blanket that is exactly like Mia's. I had a feeling once Mia noticed that she would NOT be happy! Sure enough later in the day, Adrian was trying to feed Mia some dinner and Mia started to act up and was pointing and whining. She had noticed Gabby's blanket and wanted it!!! Oh-No!!!! So I went back to the car and got Mia's green polk-a-dot blanket hoping that would help. She was happy to have her blanket but still wanted Gabby's blanket!!! We even tried to have her understand that, that blanket was not hers... and that there was a baby inside of the blanket. Of course that backfired on us because once she got close to the baby she tried to grab the blanket away from her. Eventually Daddy had to take her out of the high chair and put her on the other side of the yard where her car was so she would forget about the blanket.
We all visited some more and soon noticed Mia was getting tired. She had made herself comfortable in the toy car and was trying to go to sleep. So we knew it was time to go. We said our goodbyes, loaded Mia in the car and off to home we went. Mia knocked out right away and didn't wake up until we were almost at home. Once we got home, I gave her alittle something to eat, she watched a couple of cartoons then off to bed she went.
Phew what a day.. talk about a Rock N' Roll Easter! It was great though and it was so much fun to spend time with the family. I can't wait to see what next year will hold, especially since I will have to make TWO Easter baskets!!! haha
