My Little Shy Girl

Current mood: confused

Mia has never been one to trust or like strangers or people she doesn't know. Ever since she was a very tiny baby, whenever, she was presented to a new person she would just stare them down and refuse to laugh or even smile at anything they did. However, over time, and on HER terms she would eventually warm up and things will be ok.

Well a recent thing has been happening and its been getting worse and WORSE! She is developing a bad habit in being shy! At first it was just a rare thing that when she saw someone she didn't like she would turn away from them or not look at them. Sometimes she would even freeze up and not move. Now it has manifested into a full blown shyness! She not only refuses to look at the person(s) she is shy around but she will run to the nearest comfort zone, either Adrian or I or sometimes another stranger!! We have noticed that she is more comfortable around women than she is around men. Even at her pageant this past weekend, her Grandpa walked away from her for a second and she tried to run after him. While she was running she suddenly realized she was in the middle of a bunch of strangers and quickly ran to the nearest woman and hugged her leg all scared!!! I had to pry her away from the woman!

She is shy around family, friends and strangers. Its getting crazy now! After much observation, we have finally narrowed it down to the source (we think!) and it turns out that though she doesn't like boys or men, she is most uneasy with men with facial hair! If they have any sort of facial hair, short, stubbly or long she refuses to look at them and will turn away completely and look down.

Today we went out to eat at Pat and Oscars in Temecula. We grabbed a table and as we were waiting for our food we had Mia in the highchair next to us. She was gabbing away happily and was so happy to be out. Then she noticed a older man, with his family, who was sitting about two booths away from us. Right away she froze up, turned her head and REFUSED to look his way. This lasted the ENTIRE meal!!! No matter what we did she REFUSED to look any where near him. Every now and then she would slowly peek with the side of her eye to see if he was still sitting there and when she saw him she would turn her head again. Adrian later picked her up and sat her next to him, but she still refused to look straight. She ate her whole meal completely turned around and facing the booth cushion. The man didn't look scary or anything, but he did have a slight beard. As soon as he left with his family we told Mia he was gone. She turned and then noticed ANOTHER man sitting behind me and turned away AGAIN!!!! It's getting nuts now!!!!

I know its just a phase, well I hope it is. At least she isn't crying about it. I know I was a very shy little girl too but I don't think I was THAT bad. The only good thing is she behaves even more when there are men around so at least we can have a peaceful dinner! haha
