Current mood: pleased
It amazes me how fast Mia is going. Each day seems like she is getting older and older. she is following a tons of commands now and really seems to understand things. As much as I would like to keep her as my little baby forever I know she is growing up and therefore she needs to start her journey into "Big Girl-hood" with my held.
I have been doing things here and there to help guide her to independance. One thing is mealtime. I no longer just put the food on her tray for her to pick it up and feed herself. I have been giving her food in bowls ie. strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, eggs, you name it. She has finally understood the concept of eating from the bowl and not just dumping all her food on the tray and eating it off of there. Granted she still plays with her food now and then but most of the time she will use the bowl. Next step?... utensils. She has been mastering the art of the spoon for awhile. Just other other night I let her feed herself her mac and cheese with her spoon with no help from me. Yes, there was a giant mess but she did really well and ate half of it before she decided to start playing with it and mac and cheese went flying all over the place. I slowly started introducing the fork to her and feeding her with it. Once she realized it was alot like the spoon she took to it very well.
So for Christmas Santa brought her some new bowls AND a brand new set of toddler forks. When she opened that present her eyes immediately lit up and she was excited. I think she knew what they were. They were "Mia's forks". So for lunch today I decided to let her do a test drive with her new forks. What was on the menu?... eggs! Since she does not like to eat crumbs (her scrambled eggs have to be cut in large fat chunks or she refuses to eat it) I figured the pieces will be big enough for her to stab with her fork. Sure enough after showing her a few times she picked it right up and actually fed herself most of the egg before resorting back to her hands!!! I was so proud of her! She stabbed the eggs and ate them from her fork all by herself!! YAY!!
Just another reminder of what a big girl my little baby ... girl.. is becoming!!! Sigh.. Mia slow down!!!
