Current mood: determined
With all the hype and anticipation of Mia's big day, which is only a few days away now, most people forget there is another big day 2 days after hers. Thats right, Adrian's 29th birthday (July 13th) is two days after Mia's. Ever since he found out my due date with Mia (which was orginally July 9th) was so close to his birthday, he started saying how his birthdays are over and how Mia's will forever over shadow his. Awww..... Well last year on his birthday was the same day we brought Mia home from the hospital. We did get him a cake but his present and card had to come a few months late. This year, despite all the preparation we are doing for Mia's big 1 year bash err bashes! (remember there are two parties), I wanted to make it a point to get him a card and present on time. The only bad thing is.... with me not working I have zero money. I do have very little unemployment money ;eft but there is still a chance I will have to pay it back (still waiting to hear from the court on their decision if I have to or not but thats another story altogether).
Anyways I thought for his birthday I would attempt to cook him his favorite dish. I say attempt since I have yet to try this recipe since his Mom showed me a couple of years ago! YIKES! haha but I wanted him to have a special present from Mia to her Daddy. For Father's Day, Mia made him a colored hand print made out of home made playdough. This time I thought.... hey why don't she make him a finger painting!!!
So we went to Target early in the morning while Adrian was still in bed asleep. I picked up two birthday cards (one from me and one from her) and we went down the craft isle looking for inspiration. I found a kit of washable finger paints and figured since she did so good with not eating the homemade eatble paint I made for her awhile back, she could use the real stuff now. I also picked up some construction paper and a large notepad with blank pages.
I waited until Adrian drove off to work in the late afternoon to set up a space in the garage for her to paint. I laid down a piece of plastic, had a bowl of water nearby, her paints, the note pad of paper, wipees and paper towels. I stripped Mia down to her diaper and carried her into the garage. I sat her on the ground and poured a dab of paint on the paper for her to smear and play with. She leaned over and touched it then became more interested in rustling the pastic. Her hand was covered in paint and I didn't want her touching the garage floor (Adrian takes pride in his clean garage floor) so I attempted to sit her on my lap. Everything went downhill after that. She went nuts with the paint but also wanted to get up and walk around. She would not sit still for nothing! Paint got all over my legs, my shirt, her belly, her arms and hands. Only some got on the paper. I did my best to try to contain the disaster but soon realized I was fighting a losing battle. Soon she was walking around the garage trying to pick up things she shouldn't. Finally I gave up and was going to take her back inside. I attempted to clean off her hand with a wipee but it was still all purple and blue from paint. So, again, I sat her on my lap took the bowl of water and showed it to her. I thought if I showed her the water instead of grabbing her hand and forcing it in the water, she would splash it and clean her own hand. BAD IDEA! She really started splashing everywhere and as soon as I tried to stop her she kicked over the entire bowl and drenched both of our laps in water!!! ARGH! I dried her off and carried her back inside.
I only got a couple of painting out of that but both aren't as good as I hoped they would be. She needed a bath to get all that paint of her anyways so I thought I would try it inside one last time. This time I set up her high chair. I sat her in it, and taped a piece of paper onto the tray. I finally got it all ready, she was ready and I turned around to grab the paint and I heard... RIIIIIPPPPPP! Yep, she decided to shred the taped paper. MIA!!!! haha I was alittle frusterated but let her paint on the torn baby anyways. We got a couple more paintings before I just cut my loses and called the whole thing off. I cleaned her up and dumped her into the tub haha I let her play a bit before bedtime and once she went down I cleaned up the disaster she made.
Oh well. I tried to make a good present. Maybe I will do something with the construction paper instead... its cleaner! haha
