Current mood: shocked
It was bound to happen, especially since shes been climbing like crazy now (especially up the stairs). Mia has officially taken another step into toddler-hood and like her Mama, who was notorious for this as a baby, she fell out of her crib today. I had foreseen this happening soon but didn't think it would happen this soon.
It happened this morning. Heres the story....
I got up a bit early, before she was even awake. I was getting stuff ready to start the day, when I heard her wake up and start playing in her crib. She never cries when shes in her crib and usually plays until someone gets her. I usually get her up at about 8:30am and it was only 8. So I figured, I still had some time. I was taking my time getting her breakfast ready (washing a new bottle, getting her oatmeal, yogart and banana ready) then out of no where she started getting really whiny and started crying. I thought this is was odd since she never cries after waking up, but figured maybe she heard me up and wanted to get up. (Her boombox is broken so she doesn't have her music on and can hear everything in the house). I had a sudden urge to go grab her but shook it off since preparing her breakfast is alot harder when I have her on my arm. So I started doing stuff faster so I could grab her before her cries would wake up her Daddy who was sleeping in the room next door. I was just setting the table and doing the final touches when I heard BAM!!!!!! It was so loud! (Granted I was downstairs and it happened upstairs) but it sounded like if Adrian jumped out of the bed onto the floor.. then in a mili-second I knew, OMG She fell out of her bed!!!!! The long awaited dreaded THUMP finally happened. I threw down what I was holding and RAN upstairs as fast as I could into her room. I could hear her crying louder and louder. When I reached her room she was sitting there there on the floor, next to her bed, crying and holding her green Pooh blankey (her favorite). I quickly picked her up trying to calm her down and comfort her, she wouldn't let go of that blankey. After about 3-4 mins she finally calmed down and stopped crying. She was fine. I felt all around, no bumps, bruises or scratches. Not sure how she fell, but she didn't get hurt. I could tell because she didn't do her famous silent cry or high ear piercing cry like she has in the past when she has gotten really hurt (like when she fell off our bed or fell in the tub and cut her lip). Once she was calm we went over to Mama/Daddy's room to see if Daddy was awake from the comotion. He was, and I told him what happened. He said he didn't hear the thump but heard the aftermath of her crying and me trying to soothe her. By then Mia was fine and back to her chipper self.
What I think happened, is that since she likes to walk around in her crib and she always carries her blankey, she probably went to the edge. She sometimes puts half the blankey over the edge as she holds the other end. The blankey probably fell on the floor which caused her to cry and whine. (What I orignally heard her do while I was getting her breakfast ready) then she probably tried to get it either by reaching for it or trying to climb out of the crib, and she fell out. I think this because she was holding her blankey (which was also on the floor with her) when I found her. Either that or her and the blankey toppled over at the same time... poor baby haha
Phew we got lucky with that fall, nothing bad happened. But it gives me a reality check.. she really is growing up. What has always scared me, but scares me more now (infact I thought of it just last night again) is the day she will climb out of her crib, leave the room (we leave her room door open at night because her room gets really stuffy if closed), and fall down the stairs (her room is right next to the stairs). We are planning on moving her crib downstairs this week anyways because its getting to hot upstairs (she doesnt even take naps during the day in her room anymore and sleeps in the playpen in the guest room) so maybe we will really move it sooner so I don't have to fear that tumble down the stairs anymore. The other thing I did was move her crib rail all the way to the top. I haven't done that before because I am so short I can't reach her if its up all the way, and its broken to where if it goes up all the way its extremely hard to get it back down. (Yes, she broke it by shaking it hard all the time) She has never attempted to climb out before and the rail comes up to about mid-chest to her I didn't bother raising it, however now that this happened, I moved it right up. Hopefully that helps, it should since her matress is already on the lowest setting.
Well I am glad shes ok. Just a new lesson for Mama, expect the unexpected from Mia, and a new lesson for Mia.... she really can't fly. haha
