Mia celebrated her last big holiday before she turned 1 today. It was her first 4th of July! We decided we would take her to watch the fireworks from this giant festival they had going here in Temecula. However, since it was almot 100 degrees out, we would only go for the fireworks show in the evening. So what to do to kill time before 8pm? Well I found a way to fill in the time gap.
Every holiday or special day, despite whether we celebrate it or not, I always try to dress up Mia in the theme of that day take pictures. With her upcoming birthday I completely forgot about doing it for 4th of July until today! So after lunch I had Adrian babysit her and I drove off to Wal-greens with hopes they carried tiny flags or something festive. They had NOTHING!, so I zoomed off to Super Target thinking I could find something but I only ended up buying some cute little socks that said "American Girl" on it with a big heart with the flag in the middle. So on the way home I found another Wal-greens and checked in there for something festive. Finally, I found two tiny flags for a dollar so I picked them up and went home.
Once I got home I found the only red shirt Mia had (it was a bit small on her and I couldn't button it) and put those new socks on her along with her blue jean shorts. I got one of her old bibs, printed out a picture of the flag from the computer, and taped it to the bib, did her hair in white ribbons and she was set for pictures. Mia on the other hand REFUSES to take pictures on the couch anymore. She immediately stands up and tries to walk around. She won't smile or sit still for nothing! So I only got one decent picture out of the whole bunch but it still came out ok. I then put her down for a nap and rested a bit myself.
Once she woke from the nap all three of us headed off to Red Robin to eat dinner. She did great in the highchair and ate her food while we ate ours. She even had a juice box for dessert. She kept waving her little flag around and people just fell in love with her.
We rested again at the house for a bit then it was off to Temecula to watch the Firework show. By the time we got to the park it was CROWDED!!!!!!!! It literally had miles of cars parked all along the sidewalks, every parking lot was jammed, and even the mini-malls were jammed with people. There was literally thousands of people there and more were showing up ever minuet. We drove around and drove around, with no lucking finding a parking spot anywhere. The thought of sitting in all that traffic just to get home after it was done was scary. So we decided to go aways away to a nearby mini-mall and watch them from there. Sure it was far away but we still might see them. We got off the car and set up camp near everyone else camped there. Mia played in the grass a bit while we waited for the show to start. She walked all over the grass and when she would sit down she would tear up the grass then try to eat it!! not to mention the leaves there too! Daddy eventually had to entertain her by giving her a ride on his shoulders. Then the show started... bam BAM BOOM! Off went the fireworks.... oh no! we couldn't see them that well. NOOOOO! We were too far away and only saw half of them. Bummer! At least Mia got to see a few but she didn't seem to interested in them. We decided to head home early to avoid the traffic since we knew there would be mayhem once it was over with the amount of people there.
Once we got home I got her jammies on and Daddy fed her a bedtime bottle and off to bed she went. Wow what a day, even though we didn't get a good view of the fireworks show it was still so much fun to celebrate together as a family. I am sure Mia had a good time as well.
Well I am really tired and am looking forward to bed. I will end it here.. Happy 4th of July everyone!!!
