Trip to Oxnard for Mia's Party

Current Mood: Tired

We made another epic journey, up north to Oxnard, for Mia's 2nd Birthday party. Adrian and I decided, due to numerous circumstances, Mia's party would be held in Oxnard this year, at her Nina and Nino's house and kept very small. However, there was still tons of planning and preparing to do even for a small party! The most important thing was to get the Birthday Girl up there!!! and the cake.

I got up pretty early Saturday morning and started on her cake. (I decided to bake Mia her birthday cake and make it a "Foofa cake", one of her favorite Yo Gabba Gabba Characters). So I buzzed around the kitchen and pumped out 3 different cakes!!!! A whole sheet of chocolate, a small strawberry cake and white cupcakes. Phew! It was a ton of work and took 4 boxes of cake mix!!! I packed the cake and decided to decorate it in Oxnard so it wouldn't get messed up on our car ride up there.

We choose to have Mia's party on her actual birthday which happened to fall on Sunday so we made the drive to Oxnard on Saturday. The traffic wasn't to horrible but we did run into a couple of bad patches. Mia was good for the most part and only needed one snackie to munch on... yes that was an apple. I love giving her apples on the road since it takes her so long to eat it and it kills lots of time, plus they are naturally so portable.

Well Mia didn't need a road break but Mama did. Of course her little brother decided to start dancing on my bladder so we had to pull off and find a restroom ASAP! Luckily we were in the Monrovia area. We had stopped there before so we were semi- familiar with it. We found an Office Depot and I ran out of the car while Adrian and Mia browsed inside the store. When I got out I found them in a DVD isle and Mia was rearranging all the DVDs and having lots of fun! haha Once we got back into the car I realized how HUNGRY I was and how I needed food NOW!!!!

So we drove around a bit and finally found a Carl's Jr. I ordered some chicken strips, and though Mia only wanted "Milk" (yes shes a milk monster) we gave her some french fries. To our surprise she actually ate them too! She doesn't usually eat fries.

We got on the road again and eventually made it to my parents house. Mia knocked out about 20 mins before we hit the house so she was asleep once we arrived. We got her down from the car and brought her inside. Right away her Grandpa Pizano was waiting for her by the door and what did Mia do? She acted shy of course!!! She wouldn't leave Adrian's side and refused to look at her Grandpa. That didn't last to long though, since it is a sort of game to her. She warmed up quickly and was soon running all over the house, exploring, and getting into some mischief.

After resting a couple of hours, the three of us went to Mia's Nina and Nino's house to drop off some party supplies. Mia was a tad bit shy at first but once she saw her cousins Tracy, Sarah, and April she felt right at home. They all played with some Lincoln logs and other toys they could find. Mia remembered the toy room and wasted no time in dragging out toys. She also loved handing TONS of toys to her cousin April. She wanted to make sure April always had her hands full of toys. April wasn't sure really how to react to what Mia was doing so she just stood there and held as many as she could. It was really cute to watch them share and play together.

Later we brought Mia around her baby cousin Sophia, the youngest in the family (7 months). She didn't seem to amused by her but she did try to give her some toys to hold too! Later, while Adrian was baby talking Sophia, Mia got MAD! She told Adrian "Dada no no no no no no!" and didn't want him showing any sort of affection to the baby. When I came into the room and started to show Sophia some affection Mia right away got mad again! She kept calling me "Mama! Mama! Mama! Mama!" trying desperately to gain my attention and started to whine! Uh-Oh! This doesn't look to good for brother. I think we will have some trouble on our hands when he arrives!

Most of the time she was good. She played in her old "octogan" with her cousin April and though she was shy with her Nino at first she started to warm up a bit. She made up a game with him, where she would go over to him and say "Hi!" and wave, once he looked at her she quickly sat down and looked away playfully. Later in the visit, out of no where, she ran full blast to my brother and gave him a big hug!!!! My Brother just sat there completely shocked! and hugged her back. Then she took off again! Silly Mia, only she knows what she is going to do next.

We didn't stay to long at my brothers house since I still needed to go back to my parents house to finish up her birthday cake. So we left and I went straight to work on the cake. Mia went to bed soon after we got home and I stayed up till 1am working on that cake!! It took me 3 hours before finishing it and I only finished at that time because my Dad came to my rescue and helped me frost some cupcakes. He also helped with design ideas and decorating, he was my life saver. The only break I took was a short little 5 mins break at 12am when I snuck into Mia's room to be with her when she officially turned 2!

After the cake was done I went to bed right away. I knew I had another busy busy busy day ahead of me!
