Current mood: confused
Mia has been adjusting really well to the baby. She even acts like a little mother to him which I am really shocked to see. She always accompanies me with every diaper change, if she hears him cry she will say "I'll get it" and run over to his room... if I don't follow her fast enough she will come back out and say "I coming!" (which is her way of saying, you coming?!) when we get there she pulls up a diaper box to stand on so she can watch me change his diaper in the pack and play. If I am feeding the baby she will bring me his binky or start rubbing his head and giving him random kisses. So I know she likes her little baby brother, however, we have noticed something is not all perfect in Mia-land...
I guess there just HAD to be something... the adjustment couldn't be that perfect. And it isn't. It turns out she HATES when Adrian holds the baby. She throws the biggest tantrum EVER if he takes the baby from me. At first we thought maybe she just wanted me to keep the baby but the more and more it happens its looks like she just doesn't like Adrian holding the baby PERIOD! Not sure if its a jealousy thing... she doesn't act mean to the baby, or try to take him off of Adrian. Infact she won't go near Adrian when hes holding the baby. When I take the baby back, she will still not go near him. During her tantrum all she says is "Mama hold baby!" and demands I pick him back up. She doesn't want me to console her or talk to her, infact she literally pushes me away.
I have no idea how to fix this or work with her. Its really weird, not sure of the cause, if it is infact jealousy or that she only wants Mama with the baby. I tried to experiment a bit. I sat on the same couch with the baby in my arms next to Adrian and she didn't care. I put the baby down on another couch by himself and she didn't mind, infact she ran up to him to touch his head and look at him again. Then when Adrian was holding Mia in his lap I brought the baby over and had Adrian hold him in his other hand and instead of getting mad like I thought she would, she actually got all happy and excited and started touching the baby's hand and talking about the baby and even tapping blankets together and saying "Whoohoo" (something she likes to do). However, if you even say "Can Dada hold the baby?" She instantly gets upset says "NO!" and runs over to Adrian have him pick her up.
So I don't know. I wish I knew the root cause so I could help her through it... maybe I will figure it out soon. Other than that, shes great around the baby and I am happy for that.
