I can't believe it! I can't believe it! Mia went poopies in the potty for the FIRST time today! Wow what a milestone and I didn't even see it coming.
Today started off like any other day. I fed Mia some breakfast, had Alex asleep out here in the pack and play in the livingroom, and Mia and I were playing with her toys in the family room nearby.
All of a sudden I heard her fart. She said "Oh no Poopie" and grabbed her butt. I thought she had gone poopies already so I asked her if she wanted to go poopies in the potty. I figured if she went already I could show her that poopies go into the potty, but in all honesty I really didn't think she would be interested in the potty. To my surprise she threw down her dinosaur toys and ran to the bathroom.
We had not used her potty in such a long time it has collected stuff on it. A towel was sitting on it and a magazine. She quickly saw those things and said "Oh no potty!". I helped her take them off and she sat on her little potty. I told her that she needed to pull down her pants so she stood up and I pulled off her pants, tu-tu she was wearing and her diaper. I was shocked to see that she didn't actually go poopies yet... oh no!!! but I had her sit down anyway.
As soon as she sat on her potty she insisted I sit on "Mama potty" too. So I had to do the same. We sat there together, chatting and singing. She recently started singing a song my Dad taught her (Red River Valley) so we were singing that. I was trying to get her mind off of pooping and hoped that it would just happen on its own. No such luck...
Then she started to get up and walk around, I would tell her to sit back down or we would be done. She would quickly sit back down and talk some more. She then grabbed the toilet paper and tried to "clean herself". I didn't want to make the experience a bad one so I let her (She was still clean, she didn't go pee pees or anything). Eventually I figured if nothing has happened yet nothing is going to so I told her it was time to put her diaper back on and go. She got all upset and refused! Great.. I thought to myself. Now I won't be able to get her out of the bathroom, I will have to tackle her down and put a diaper on her kicking and screaming and she would probably wake up Alex. I was all mad at myself for even bringing up the whole potty thing. What to do now!?! So I waited some more trying to think of a way out of my little jam without having her blow up.
Then it happened. She quickly got quiet and stood up and squatted a bit. I knew then that the time had come, I told her to sit down but she had this worried unsure I don't know what to do look on her face so I quickly forced her down on the potty. Once her butt hit the potty she pooped in an instant. The whole event took a second!
After she pooped she quickly stood up and looked at it and said "Oh no! Poopie!!!" Over and over again with this concerned half panicked voice. I cheered her on trying to reassure her that it was a good thing. I clapped and cheered but she was still concerned and close to getting upset! So I quickly said "Thank you Mia!" and once I said that she perked up and said "Welcome" and was all proud of herself. Then she took some toilet paper and placed it on top of her poopie haha
It was the grossest poop I have EVER seen in my LIFE! So gross I refuse to describe it here let alone take a picture of it like some parents do. It was HUGE almost like if "I" did it! I didn't know what to do, the sight of it alone made me want to throw up! let alone the smell. I knew I had to act fast or I would start to gag. So I quickly detached the bowl and showed Mia that the poopie goes into the big potty. She was all intrigued by that and helped throw toilet paper (clean) into the toilet on top of her poopie. I tried to get her to flush the toilet but she didn't want to, so I did. We cheered some more. I cleaned out her bowl and took her to the room to clean her up.
Now came the hard part how to clean her! She didn't want her diaper on! Uh Oh! but I told her she would get a BIG PRIZE for going poopie in the potty and that distracted her enough to let me clean her and put a new diaper on. The only bad thing was, I didn't have a prize for her. All this came suddenly that I wasn't prepared in the least bit for it but I knew she deserved a prize. So we left the room, all while my mind racing to think what I could give her that would be a prize. I went to the kitchen but I couldn't find any candy, I went looking all around running out of ideas. Mia grew impatient. Then I went to the coat closet... still I couldn't find anything and just as I was closing the door I looked up and found an old M&M candy dispenser we got from Vegas last year. PERFECT!!! I grabbed it and gave it to her as a prize. She was so happy! She LOVES M&Ms and played with it on the ground.
I cheered her on more then ran to the phone and called my Dad to share the news. I then ran upstairs and told Adrian who was half asleep. I was and am, so proud of my little girl. What a big step in her little life! She is growing up way to fast.
So where do we go from here?! I dunno, I wasn't really planning on potty training just yet but I think I will start in that direction now. I won't push it but I will encourage it when she wants to. I just wish I would have shown her to go in the big potty and not the little one because cleaning out that poopie was worse than any diaper change I have yet to do!!! haha
